Liquor Sales Soar due to Dussehra Festival

Hyderabad: Liquor sales in Telangana have once again reached record levels due to the just-concluded Dussehra festival. Within 10 days of the festival, nearly Rs 1,000 crore worth of liquor was sold in the State. Sales in bars, liquor shops as well as pubs have seen a huge increase and resulted in huge revenue for liquor to the exchequer. The officials concluded that the huge sales took place in Hyderabad city itself. The sales doubled on Saturday and Sunday, which are the last two days of the festival.
According to the officials of Prohibition & Excise department, the State exchequer has earned huge revenue from the sale of the liquor in short time. There are 2,260 liquor shops and 1,171 bars and restaurants in the State. Apart from this, the sale of liquor continues in pubs as well.
In Telangana, the sale of liquor is rampant during the Dussehra every year. This time too, the Excise department has kept huge stocks of the liquor in advance with the same assessment. Huge stocks have also been kept in bars and liquor shops. The sales started even before the start of Dussehra.
The sales stood at Rs 2,838.92 crore till September 30, 2024. As many as 10.44 lakh cases of the liquor worth Rs 1,057.42 crore were sold between the beginning of October and until October 11. Similarly, 17.59 lakh cases of beer were sold. Ranga Reddy district topped the list in sales followed by Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal districts. Liquor worth Rs 205.42 crore has reached retail shops from Excise depots for the last three says of the festival. The sale of the liquor and beer competed with each other.
